The Cumberland River Project Returns with Carefree Single ‘Midsummer’

Echoing the carefree feeling of a Midsummer night, the aptly titled ‘Midsummer’ carefully threads about themes of playfulness, romantic flings and electrifying attraction, all then drenched in a playful and elegant sonic livery. Penned by German troubadour The Cumberland River Project and Ukrainian songstress Liliia Kysil, the record moves forward with class and charisma, slowly drawing the listeners in, perhaps attracted by Kysil’s evocative, melodic vocal tone.

The Cumberland River Project here showcases once again all of his songwriting character, crafting an acoustic gem with a good amount of Latin rhythms and aural restraint. Usually known for his forays into Country and folk, Frank Renfordt is certainly not afraid to pursue different avenues. ‘Midsummer’ is a fitting endeavour, widening the project’s stylistical references.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, the talented creatives explain: “It narrates the story of a magical Midsummer night, where young people gather around a flickering campfire, laughing, dancing and celebrating the moment. But for two of them, this night is more than just a celebration – it is the beginning of an unexpected love story.”
