How about some self-produced low rock? Some might be confused about the definition of ‘low rock’: well, it mainly stems from the famous band Morphine, known for their deep, intense sound focused on bass frequencies and rhythms (bass, baritone saxophone and drums). Shane Duquette aims to pursue that very same path, having just released the cathartic, gloomy single titled ‘This Ain’t the Day I Die’ under the moniker Hyporadar…
Introduced by a simple yet striking bassline, the track then proceeds with a firm drum groove, further enhanced by Duquette’s casual, earthy vocals, delivered with a lightly haunting and playful tone. Overall, there’s a fine balance between minimalism and quirkiness, with the sparse instrumental benefitting greatly from a cowbell – an element that really stands out in this context. One of the peculiarities of ‘This Ain’t the Day I Die’ lies in Hyporadar’s radical self-sufficiency. He recorded, produced and mixed the single all by himself.
Despite Shane’s effort to find a singer for the track, he also ended up recording vocals. Talk about authenticity, eh? Shane proves the hard truth that we all struggle to admit, often: when wanting to achieve something, one has to go for it, no matter the hurdles. ‘This Ain’t the Day I Die’ is taken from Hyporadar’s homonym latest album, dating back to 2023.
