A hidden secret stashed away in Liverpool’s quirky streets, Ofir Sandler might just be our new obsession. Both fierce and evocative, the talented songstress has been releasing music on and off for the past few years, yet 2025 carries the potential of being Sandler’s breakout moment, with Ofir fully delving into her sharp, intense indie-rock character. Also carrying a strong pop flair, ‘no other way’ is the perfect evidence of it, a breakup anthem with a decisively reflective component. The single follows up from January’s ‘tooth fall out’.
Nuanced and expressive, ‘no other way’ benefits from a lyrical and sonic push-and-pull, manifesting particularly in the contrast between quieter, more intimate verses and all-out, punchy choruses. Sandler’s vocals crown such a striking artistic formula with elegance and charisma, commanding the listener’s attention from the start. Fuzzy guitar tones well co-exist with electronic textures, making the final record rather eclectic and palatable for a wide audience, all courtesy of Ofir’s accompanying band, The Shoemakers.
Written as a melancholic, painful breakup anthem, ‘no other way’ seeks to deal with the tragic realisation that a relationship has come to an end. It’s not easy to call it quits and think clearly in such a situation, but Sandler aims to do what’s best for her, striving for independence and resilience while respecting and being fair to the other side. A wonderful song and effort, one that makes us look forward to the project’s upcoming EP, ‘Feeling Funny’.
