Prigida Unveils Gloomy and Liminal EP ‘MM’

On the surface, ‘MM’ might appear as your run-of-the-mill gloomy, leftfield electronica outfit. Yet, at a deeper look, its ethos is impressive and boundary-pushing. Crafted by Georgian (the country) producer and creative Prigida, the record is inspired by staples of the UK underground and house scene, such as Burial, among others. Championing the same dark sound design and spacious vocal samples, Prigida incorporates a great deal of dictaphone recordings, voice memos and fragments of interviews, “blurring the line between documentary and composition”, as he so boldly describes it.

We love it when artists have a clear goal or a unique take on their work, it makes it authentic and truly personal. ‘MM’ is the perfect evidence of that, a vibrant and melancholic EP that’s rather obscure, yet interesting and introspective. Is it club material? Perhaps not, we would enjoy it at home, in solitude, late at night. Although it would be fun to dance to it in a smoky, dimly-lit underground club…

Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the EP, Prigida explains: “It came from a place of walking, listening, recording. There’s no traditional instrumentation here – just the sounds of the world around me, reshaped into something that feels both deeply personal and strangely universal”. Featuring the title track ‘MM’ and opener ‘Last Night Promise’, the EP is intense and liminal, a true gem ready to be discovered by any curious listener out there.
