23 Fields are back! It’s been a while since we covered them on Mesmerized, precisely since last year’s ‘The Mary Stanford (Eternal Father Strong To Save)’, a piece that showcased their purposeful folk artistry, as well as the attachment to their local community. The Hasting-based trio is adamant about what they stand for, conceptualising their music as a blend of folk, rock, and Americana, a formula that pretty much sums them up. Yet, they do carry a keen English flair, a mythical character that mainly shines through their lyrical storytelling, quite nostalgic and romantic, yet firmly planted in modernity.
‘The Vacant Stars Of Wandering Souls’ is the perfect evidence of that. The album, released back in December, marks a crucial milestone for 23 Fields, as they orient themselves towards a fuller, eclectic sonic imprint, all the while never forgetting their acoustic roots. Across eleven wholesome tracks, the British outfit engages in what we’d call aural intimacy; restrained and melancholic arrangements drenched in heartwarming melodies and the project’s gritty, raw vocals, truly expressive and emotional.
Delving deeper into the record, 23 Fields explain: “It’s inspired the sense of drifting many people feel today, searching for meaning, connection, and place while navigating a world that often feels vast and impersonal.” We are confident that audiences will relate to the song, especially in our relatively gloomy and problematic times, where people are constantly yearning for purpose and hope. ‘The Vacant Stars Of Wandering Souls’ plays a little, yet relevant part in achieving a better tomorrow.
